Only Murders In The Building

Selling more than 145 million singles worldwide and over 30 billion global streams it’s safe to say Selena has achieved great success as a recording artist.  “Lose You To Love Me,” the first single off her critically acclaimed album “Rare,” marked a historic moment for the singer as she landed her first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The album debuted at the top of the charts; her third consecutive album to debut at No.1 on the Billboard Album chart.  Praise for the album was immediate with Variety proclaimed, “Rare is one of the best pop albums in recent memory” and Time called it a “pop gift” while Rolling Stone raved calling it “an act of divine ruthlessness.”  In 2017, Gomez was named Billboard’s “Woman of the Year.”   Selena recently released her critically acclaimed “Revelación” EP; her first all-Spanish language music project.  With the release of “Revelación,” Gomez was the first female to reach No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Album charts since 2017.      

On the big screen, Selena Gomez began making the transition from young actress to adulthood with the much talked about Harmony Korine’s “Spring Breakers.”   The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival to critical acclaim while Gomez’s performance was singled out as a “breakout.”  She appeared in the Academy Award nominated film “The Big Short” opposite Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling as well as “Fundamentals of Caring” alongside Paul Rudd.  The later film premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival and Gomez was named by Vulture.com as one of “The 20 Best Performances of Sundance 2016.“  Other credits include:  “Rudderless,” “Neighbors 2” and the James Franco directed “In Dubious Battle.”  Most recently, Gomez was seen opposite Bill Murry and Adam Driver in “The Dead Don’t Die” directed by Jim Jarmusch.  The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.  

With her July Moon Productions Gomez has produced a fearless slate of both television and film.  Beginning with the hit Netflix original series “13 Reasons Why” it was clear she was willing to tackle often unspoken and controversial topics.  She went on to executive produce the critically acclaimed Netflix docu-series “Living Undocumented” which created much-needed exposure and discussion regarding the polarizing issue of undocumented people living in the United States.   Gomez serves as executive producer and appears on the buzzworthy hit HBO Max cooking series “Selena + Chef.”  The show which is in its second season has received praise for bringing a fresh approach to the genre.  On the big screen, Gomez produced “Broken Hearts Gallery,” the directorial debut from Natalie Krinsky for Sony Pictures.  Amplifying other female voices is a priority for July Moon.  It was recently announced Gomez will star and produce “In the Shadow of the Mountain” based on the upcoming memoir by trailblazer Silvia Vásquez-Lavado, who became the first Peruvian woman to summit Mount Everest and the first openly gay woman to complete the Seven Summits.  Currently, Selena is an executive producer and stars opposite comedy legends Steve Martin and Martin Short, in the upcoming Hulu series “Only Murders In The Building.”

Throughout her career, Gomez has used her platform to advocate for many causes.  She was named the youngest goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF at the age of 17; hosted WE Day events which empowers young people to achieve their fullest potential and granted hundreds of Make-A-Wish experiences.   With her own personal challenges she has become a champion of those suffering from Lupus as well as bringing awareness to the critical need for organ donation.  Gomez is an outspoken proponent of many social issues and unafraid to question the status quo.  She works  closely with the Center for Countering Digital Hate which seeks to end toxic and dangerous misinformation online. During the last election Michelle Obama asked her to join her non-partisan organization  “When We All Vote “ as a co-chair.  In 2020, Gomez launched her Rare Beauty cosmetics line which is committed to changing the stigma around mental illness.  Through the company’s Rare Impact Fund she has pledged to raise an extraordinary $100 million over the next 10 years to help give people access to mental health services.
