2007

Hulu is founded

Established as a joint venture between News Corporation and NBC Universal, and later Providence Equity Partners and The Walt Disney Company.

2008

Hulu.com launches and brings television to consumers in a free ad-supported environment.

2009

Hulu’s first Super Bowl ad airs

In the iconic commercial, Alec Baldwin talks about Hulu’s TV offerings as an evil plot to destroy the world.

2010

Hulu launches subscription service, Hulu Plus

The subscription service gave consumers access to full series of some of their favorite shows, and marked the first time the service was available on many platforms.

August 2011

A Day in the Life

Hulu is the first streaming service to launch original content with its first first original, A Day in the Life.

September 2011

Hulu hits 1 million subscribers

July 2015

Showtime becomes the first premium network add-on offered on Hulu.

Today, Hulu offers HBO®, Showtime®, Cinemax®, and STARZ® add-ons.

September 2015

Hulu gives subscribers more choice and launches a commercial-free plan.

2016

Hulu hits 12 million subscribers.

May 2017

Hulu goes live with Live TV

The introduction of Live TV makes Hulu the only streaming service to offer customers live channels plus an on demand library, all in one place.

September 2017

Hulu becomes the first streaming service to take home the Outstanding Drama Series Emmy® Award with The Handmaid’s Tale

2018

Hulu celebrates 10 years

March 10th marks 10 years since Hulu’s public launch.

The Walt Disney Company assumes full operational control of Hulu.
